I came across Peugeot 107 this weekend. I am very impressed with it! Peugeot is running an online competition where visitors to the site can customize a Peugeot 107. The best customizations are chosen and then people vote on the best design. The winner receives 1 of 3 2Gb iPod Nanos. People who vote also stand a chance of winning an iPod and there are also mystery prizes. The prizes may not be so great but the idea is awesome. The winners will be announced on Wednesday 7th of March 2007.
I can’t seem to find who designed the site but it is really well done. It is flash based, but what is even more interesting for me is the fact that it is so light, so the 56k users won’t have any trouble browsing the site.

The colour scheme is really fresh and funky while still looking professional with lots of white space. It looks very web 2.0, even though it really isn’t anything new. It seems the idea behind it was for it to be viral as they keep encouraging you to tell other people and there is also a “spread the word” page.
I think it could have been more of a success if they changed the 1st prize to a Peugeot 107 and spent a bit more on marketing the site. I personally believe if your going to do something, go big or go home. I haven’t seen any billboard ads however I might have seen a Peugeot 107 ad on T.V. and if I did it obviously wasn’t good enough to stick in my mind or take me to their site.
All in all though it was very good to see something like this from Peugeot and in South Africa. More companies need to start using the internet effectively for marketing in this country. So maybe in the future we will see a re-run of this campaign from Peugeot or something similar. I hope it was a success for them.
I have attached some screenshots below.
