My Genius is a social networking site, aimed at people wanting to start a business, enter a new career or simply network with other people and benefit from it. My Genius is a great South African concept with so much potential. Their member base is growing and more members are starting to take part in the services offered by My Genius.
My Genius is all about branding and promoting yourself. I personally have networked with some great people from My Genius. They allow users to create their own blog posts, forum topics, groups and you can speak to members privately through their personal message system. The interface is fairly simple to use and for someone who is less familiar with using the internet it still shouldn’t take them more than a few minutes to get into how the site works.
There are however a few things My Genius lacks. I believe My Genius has the potential to increase its traffic, member base, member activity and ad revenue simply by implementing a few basic features. The following two are the most important in my opinion.
- RSS Feeds for blog topics, blog comments, club messages and club replies. Internet Explorer 7 now supports RSS Feeds and Firefox always has, Google Reader is coming up in the world to, ask Rafiq. [what is RSS]
- Public Profiles – Allowing users to have their profile viewed by non-registered members and perhaps even providing tools that allow users to link to their profile from their personal blogs, websites or forum signatures. This would increase awareness of My Genius within blogging and forum communities. South Africa has quite a few forums.
Below are some screen shots of My Genius. It is a wonderful web site and has a lot to offer, so do not hesitate to give it a try: My Genius.

One of the main reasons I’ve been using mygenius less and less is the lack of RSS.
Thanks Tyler. You are so right. We have both these issues high on the development list.
