Muti – Catching Spam

This morning I was checking up on all my favorite sites and one of them just happens to be muti.

Muti is a social bookmarking site inspired by reddit and Digg but dedicated to content of interest to Africans or those interested in Africa.

I noticed a user by the name of kiky was posting a lot of product accessories which all seem to point to the same domain or one very similar. I realised this must be spam. I have tagged all these submissions as spam and have notified Neville, the sites creator. If you notice them as well please tag them so we can rid muti of this spam. Neville, I suggest integrating Akismet into muti. It’s priceless in spam protection.

Below are some screenshots of the spam.

  1. Great idea Tyler! It is annoying when the spam hits Muti… I use SpamKarma2 for wordpress and it works BEAUTIFULLY!

  2. Good thinking. I’ll start tagging with “spam” too. I’m sure Neville can build in some type of control to make sure that the spam gets caught. He’ll probably want to make sure that people aren’t maliciously tagging things as spam to kill stories they don’t like though.

  3. Thanks for your suggestions guys, I will be looking into some of the solutions presented here.

  4. “spam” is too general. I might submit an article about spam and it would get trapped! Tag it “mutispam”.

  5. Stii: Agreed, much better. :)
