Ananzi Responds, I Respond

Last week I wrote an article entitled Ananzi Please Wake Up. Looking at the comments it seems I am not the only one who feels Ananzi is slipping. Exactly 7 days, under the pseudonym Papercut, someone from Ananzi commented on the article. In the interest of privacy I cannot reveal the person’s name or their email address, however it does seem to be valid.

Ananzi’s Response:

Dear Tyler

Thank you for your constructive criticism.

Contrary to current perception, we are well aware of the impact of social networking and have been tracking as many blog posts as possible regarding Ananzi.

The information we have obtained just from blogs alone has proved invaluable (not to mention cheaper) than anything we could have paid for. We are starting to put all the constructive and credible criticism to use, however, as easy as that all may sound, this is a big ship and it’s is going to take a while for us to change course. Sharon Knowles has joined us and is gearing up for the challenge of reworking all aspects of Ananzi.

We’ll keep you posted…

My Response:

I am glad to see that Ananzi tracks blogs, but I would like to see Ananzi join the conversation. Keeping people up-to-date and in the loop will prove more valuable in the long run.

I would also recommend while Ananzi is being “reworked” that it consider becoming for flexible and agile which would allow for future growth and quicker adaption in the future.

  1. ok, 2 questions: how the fuck is sharon knowles? and who the fuck is tyler reed? and who cares? (ok, make that 3 questions)

  2. Anon:
    1) Sharon Knowles blogs over here.
    2) Find out who Tyler Reed is here.
    3) Probably nobody.

  3. Strange that Ananzi responds using an arb nickname & no URL.

  4. tyler: exactly. on the one side is a student (ok, apologies ‘social media strategist’ ayuh) and on the other side is a hippie (that’s what i could gleam from her blog, but i’ll give her the benefit of the doubt, she doesn’t have a proper about page).

anyway. i don’t even work for ananzi. who are _they_ anyway? ;) doesn’t everyone just google in this day and age? i just get annoyed at all the hot air around the net these days.

  5. Tyler, It’s a pity that they left an anonymous comment. We’re assuming it is someone from Ananzi, if it is, wonderful, if not, then no joy for the future of Ananzi.

  6. Melt du Plooy: I have confirmed the person is from Ananzi. :)

  7. @rafiq: Strange?! makes perfect sense. Just like their web2.0 strategy…

@anon: Everyone Googles. I don’t think it would be feasible to stick in that market. They really need an innovative idea to get back their market share. Simply sprucing up their search engine is not going to cut it!

@ Ananzi: If you are still listening, here is a free tip: http://microformats.org ;-)

I actually saw Sharon Knowles started a Facebook group for startpage.co.za I was wondering whats up! Here is the link to the group.

  8. Ananzi is so hell bent on their own self-destruction for some advertising revenue. I wish jonga.co.za would get it’s act together.

  9. Do you really think Sharon Knowles can help Ananzi?????
    I doubt it!
