Is Social Media Mobile?

Blogger.com Mobile

Facebook and MySpace have mobile sites. So does Flickr, Twitter and YouTube. So now I can stay connected to all my social networks, see photos, update my status and even watch videos all through my mobile device. Zoopy even has a mobile application to help users upload videos and photos via their mobile phones.

If you have an account on Blogger you can also blog via your mobile. If you host my own blog there a tools out there that allow you to blog via your mobile as well.

I came across a post earlier this morning by David Ferrabee, in which he shared 3 big things he learned. The second thing he learned was: Social media is not mobile.

In David’s post, he mentions how Stephen, a guy from Nokia, argues that Social Media is not mobile. His logical reason for this is because users cannot wiki on a cell phone or watch YouTube videos on a Blackberry.

The reason we cannot wiki on Wikipedia is because the team over at Wikipedia haven’t created a mobile platform which allows us to do so. So my argument is as such, Social Media is mobile, however it is limited by the support across all mobile devices (in terms of capabilities to create, share, distribute and view content) and the lack of effort by companies to make their services available on a mobile device.

There are some sites I would like to go mobile really soon, these are Amatomu, My Video and StumbleUpon.

The Good Die Young

Early this morning I woke up to an sms telling me yet another friend of mine passed away in the early hours of the morning. In the last 2 weeks I have lost 3 friends in car accidents. I went to school with them, I did sport with them, I partied with them. I took their presence for granted. They are no longer here with us.

Sjava
Bafweto, you were a legend. On the track and on the soccer field. I’ll never forget your Casanova charm, the determination and sportsmanship you displayed at all times. You were a well mannered and upstanding young lad. Rest In Peace.

Neil
My boy, another legend. Always a quiet guy, minding your own. You lived life your way. I’ll never forget the amount of concentration you put into every shot when we played pool. A true gentleman. Rest In Peace.

Werner
Dude, a legend of funny! Never a dull moment around you. Loved by everybody, except the teachers. You were a rebel with a heart of gold. Rest In Peace.

You boys will be missed dearly by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are will your families.

Brands Convention – Great Success

Yesterday, Mike and I did our joint presentation at The Brands Convention in Melrose Arch. It was Mike’s 120th presentation, so he’s what you would call seasoned at this type of thing. It was my 1st presentation and I really enjoyed it. The response we received was awesome. We had so much fun presenting and I can’t wait to do it again. You can view our presentation below or download it here. I have excluded the videos as they are rather large to download, if you would like them please contact me.

The amount of people I met and spoke to was incredible, all of whom showed great interest in social media. I have never seen so many people keen on starting their own blogs. In fact, Costa, someone I met on the first day has started his own blog already. Check out The Rise of Imagine’s.

The Brands Convention was really a well organised event and I would like to thank everyone at Top Company for putting it all together. I will be attending the next one without a doubt. For those who are interested, seeing as though YouTube and Facebook where spoken about a lot, I have created a group on Facebook for us to all connect.

PowerPoint: 10-20-30 Rule

Almost two years ago, Guy Kawasaki, a well known Venture Capitalist, created the 10-20-30 Rule for presentations. Recently, I have been creating quite a few proposals and presentations. It makes for a good guideline when creating proposals and presenting them.

Above is a video on the 10-20-30 rule. If you can’t see it, watch it here.
